For five years, Alexis had the opportunity to pioneer and facilitate the Drama Therapy program for students at the Orange County School of the Arts. The intent of the class was to introduce students to the basic theories and practices of Drama Therapy, focusing on how these techniques can enhance the student’s personal experience within the performance realm.

While in the class, students often shared their gratitude for having an outlet in which to download their concerns and simultaneously build a feeling of universality with their peers. Since Drama Therapy gives students tools to combat stress, anxiety and the feeling of being overwhelmed, students often report feeling more self-confident and prepared to enter into the uncertain world beyond high school.

Along with being learning to tap into their personal stories, students learn:

  • Basic concepts of Drama Therapy

  • Drama Therapy warm-ups that can be used as performance warm-ups

  • How to apply the concepts and theories of Drama Therapy to enhance their own journey as an artist

  • How to become aware of the importance of tapping into their own psyche to support and enhance their own careers

Alexis Maron offers Drama Therapy in the classroom for students of all ages.

Through the primary approach of role method and theory, and both an experiential and dialectic experience, students have learned the major concepts behind Drama Therapy, and how to apply it to their own artistic process.

In addition, Alexis has created experiential workshops for students at UC Berkeley and Cal State Fullerton. With the intent of helping students to deepen their mindfulness practices, combat the major stressors and pressures of being in high demand schools, and ultimately understanding how Drama Therapy can be a viable area of study.

"Alexis has the understanding and ability to assess the needs of a group, as well as individuals and plan sessions accordingly. She knows how to create a safe and engaging play space that offers the participants a chance to practice needed social and emotional skills in a supportive environment. In addition, Alexis understands the importance of reflection and haitually considers the behavioral indicators of the participants in order to evaluate the session and plan for future groups."
